FreedroidRPG is a mature open source sci-fi isometric role playing game. It strives at providing an immersive ambience backed by refined graphics and music tracks. Besides the hack'n'slash action phases, dialogs with dozens of characters take care of storytelling. The player can fight with melee or ranged weapons, take control of his robotic enemies by hacking, and remotely execute code on enemy robots. We have a storyline that we try to make strong enough to be appealing to people who are more after roleplaying than hack'n'slash. The development team is currently made of around four people - two coders, and two people taking care of game content, and we get occasional contributions from many other people. Those contributions notably include music tracks, levels, and graphics. All of us are volunteers. We gave a lightning talk at FOSDEM 2009 that can be found at

  • [FreedroidRPG] Leveleditor overhaul My project consists in modifying the GUI level editor to make it more intuitive, and to add more tools for creating walls, floors...
  • Dungeon improvements project Improving random levels in FreedroidRPG to a usable level, in order to increase both the game play value by adding much more content that does not require careful hand editing as well as greatly increase the replay ability of the game
  • Enhanced items handling The proposed project replaces the old magical item system with a new one. The new system will add sockets to weapons and armor and introduce a new add-on item type that can be mounted to a socket. Items will be modified to have sockets, and add-ons will be made available in-game. Add-ons will come in many varieties, including simple stat bonus add-ons, generic purpose special add-ons such as a light-radius improver, and item type specific add-ons such as a rapid fire add-on for ranged weapons.
